Why Should You Test Mineral Levels?

Minerals are the fundamental building blocks of life. Minerals are essential for virtually every metabolic reaction within the body from the breakdown of food and the production of energy, to the formation of new cells for hair, blood and other tissue, from the contraction of muscles to the electrical transmission along nerve cells. Understanding the mineral levels within your body provides a road map to your health.

Why Hair Analysis instead of Blood, Saliva or Urine?

Blood, urine and saliva undergo a natural filtration process within the body on a daily basis. As a result, essential mineral and nutrient levels are equivalent to a snapshot in time providing nutrient levels and metabolic data from within only a few days.

However, hair is excretory tissue produced with the body’s metabolic elimination of essential and nonessential minerals and other elements. With the average rate of hair growth, mineral hair testing detects levels from the last 3+ months providing more robust insight into nutrient levels and metabolic patterns over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long does it take to receive the results?

A: 4-6 weeks for the results from when you mail the test to the lab.

Q: Is it easy for a layman to read the results on ones own?

A: Yes! We provide a clear, easy to understand summary with graphs to explain results and important findings. In addition, you’ll receive the full formal report that can be shared with your health care provider.

Q: How much hair must you cut off?

A: Approximately 1 large teaspoon full. Hair should be 1-1.5 inches long and taken close to the scalp. We recommend taking it from a few areas of your head as shown in the diagram. This will help minimize any visual issues.

Q: What minerals are tested?

Mineralife’s Hair Analysis Test assesses 36 individual elements and assesses 27 important relationship between various minerals.

The minerals tested include Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, Copper, Zinc, Phosphorus, Iron, Manganese, Chromium, Selenium, Cobalt, Germanium, Molybdenum, Sulfur, Uranium, Arsenic, Beryllium, Mercury, Cadmium, Lead, Aluminum, Barium, Bismuth, Rubidium, Lithium, Nickel, Platinum, Thallium, Vanadium, Strontium, Tin, Titanium, Tungsten and Zirconium.

Q: Will this test tell me if I have low iron levels?

A: Yes! Iron is one of the elements tested. In addition, it will tell if there are any mineral imbalance between Iron and other elements such as Copper that may contribute to low iron absorption levels.

Q: Will the test diagnose issues?

Hair Mineral Analysis testing is for self-educational and informational purposes only and in no way is intended as medical counseling or medical advice concerning any medical condition, disorder or disease. None of the services, information, statements or products discussed have been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Q: Can I find out if my thyroid is functioning properly through this test?

A: The test may identify deficiencies or imbalances that may cause issues in thyroid function or hormone secretion directly related to thyroid function. In addition, the identified metabolic profile may identify if you have propensity toward thyroid issues. It will not diagnose a problem. Diagnosis of a specific thyroid issue can only by identified by a physician.

Q: Is the testing lab certified?

A: Yes! The testing facility is licensed at both the federal and state level as a clinical laboratory.

So much finally makes sense from my test
I was surprised by these results in a good way. I saw the review about blood test results and know those are a more immediate metabolic indication within what is happening in your body within the last 48 hours. My results showed that I had elevated calcium retention (significantly high). Some indicated factors are tight muscle contractions (aka chronically tense muscles) and decreased bladder capacity. My potassium/calcium ratio was way off causing high blood pressure. Spot on there too. Plus, I’ve been trying to do the Keto diet the last 7 months and have seen minimal changes. My dietary recommendations based on my metabolic profile (slow 1) show I should be eating 5-6 small meals a day with high protein to optimize my metabolism. This all made sense. Ideal protein has been the best diet I’ve done in the last 10 years. I’m due for my 6 month recheck and I’m excited to see the changes.

The Mineral Hair Analysis test (and retest!) has been an awesome way to check my nutritional progress. I am a fairly active human but diet and supplementation always fell to the back burner because I lacked direction. This test provides easy to understand results, giving me the freedom to upgrade my diet and supplement program in a way that works best for me and my lifestyle. I certainly will continue to retest every 6-8 months (since I am generally healthy I extend beyond the 3-6 month recommendation). A huge reason I continue to stick to this as a source of knowledge is because I do see the results when I make the recommended changes in my diet and supplementation. Less fatigue, more energy, muscles are not as sore after working out and so much more! Highly recommended for ANYONE that wants to take their health to the next level.

I searched around for a hair analysis test & was surprised to find this one so affordable. I messaged them inquiring & they assured me it was legit & the reason it was more affordable was bc you didn’t get 1:1 supplement advice afterwards. This was fine by me (at the time). It took a bit longer than I had anticipated but the results (& instructions) were thorough. Unfortunately I had some imbalances that were not as cut & dry as adding in a supplement. So, I’m honestly still questioning how to fix them. But overall, definitely worth the money.

    Good quality test
I was pleased with the price and the product. It was easy for me to understand, yet also came with a report that was more detailed to show my doctor. It was very easy to use and measure my hair. Would definitely recommend!

  5. Vivian

I was impressed with the detailed analysis and give it aligned with some of the symptoms and conditions in my health. Would definitely recommend!

  6. DL (verified owner)

I used the results of the hair analysis to compare with similar data that I’ve obtained from urine and blood analyses. It was interesting to note that, although there were similarities, the hair analyses seemed to provide a longer-term integrated view of my minerals status that is often difficult to discern from blood analyses alone. The hair analysis was also valuable in providing data on trace minerals that are either rarely analyzed or quite expensive in blood tests. I used the data to evaluate adjustments in my mineral supplementation.

I first took a hair analysis test in 2000. I was curious because I was getting older and I was concerned about bone health. I was taking calcium/magnesium, but I knew there were other minerals involved, and I wanted to see if my body was absorbing enough minerals. Also, I have had white hair starting in my twenties, and I had heard that was caused by low copper. The results were so helpful. My copper was extremely low, and I began taking 7 mg copper a day. It was very hard to increase my copper in the hair analysis even at that high a dose. I kept taking copper and getting my hair tested to make sure I wasn’t getting too much. Another wonderful thing happened: my flashes stopped! I have continued to get my hair tested twice a year since then to make sure the copper didn’t get too high. I only take 4 mg copper now, but still, that is twice the recommended amount so I want to continue testing. A few years later, working with a holistic psychiatrist, I was low in all my minerals. It turned out that I was very low in stomach acid, not absorbing minerals or proteins. I started taking betaine hydrochloride with each meal, and soon it helped my blues! Thus I am a big fan of using hair analysis as a tool to improve my health.

I am utterly pleased with the test and how easy it was from start to finish. I received a very detailed 11 page report about my own profile with recommended dietary changes in addition to the minerals or supplements that I’m lacking. I am looking forward to implementing changes and checking back in 2-3 months to retest and see where I am. I also plan to use this test for my 5 year old daughter to get more insight. Thank you for creating this amazing product!

  9. Jurgita Precio (verified owner)

I was really happy that i was finally able to do a thorough mineral test and to find out what my body was missing. I try to stay on top of my health as i don’t want to see doctors. The results were thorough, easy to understand and with helpful suggestions what supplements to take and recommend dietary changes. I would recommend this test to anyone who wants to be in charge of their health and to have a more complete picture of what is going on inside.

  10. Rachel (verified owner)

The experience was great. Friendly customer service. Got results back quickly. Many symptoms I have were explainable now because I was low in iodine and potassium. Took the prebiotic and probiotic along with recommended iodine and potassium. Feeling much better and glad I chose Mineralife.

Very informative. There is a strong(!) correlation between Aluminum in the body/brain and Alzheimer’s. Ideally, the body should be absorbing NO Aluminum, and there should be *none* showing up on any test, including hair.
My results showed a small, but significant amount of Aluminum in my hair. This helped confirm my previous diagnosis of MCI… Mild Cognitive Impairment… the precursor to Alzheimer’s.
I am presently attempting to remove Aluminum from my body using Silica Water (that is one of a few safe and readily available options.)
Will be ordering a second test shortly to give me two “points on the curve” and the beginnings of a quantitative analysis of changes.
